There’s nothing innovative about this design, but it does have a huge personal meaning. I wore this design on a tank top at my first ever Pride parade!
It was such a huge experience for me and I was tearing up every five minutes, because it was all so beautiful and overwhelming… and then also a bit sad. I saw all these people waving and smiling at me cause I was walking in the parade, but at the same time I knew that if you saw me walking down the street tomorrow, holding the hand of my girlfriend or kissing her – however innocently or briefly – most of these people wouldn't be smiling at it. Well, maybe some dirty smiles or those that are a result of a joke told at our expense.
But at the Pride parade, these people just accepted me and the most flaming, flamboyant, butch, queer, quirky, nerdy or just plain normal and average LGBT person. And for once, I could hold the hand of the person I love, and kiss her in plain sight, and not only would it be accepted or tolerated, it would be cheered and celebrated. And if anyone would dare to react otherwise, then there were literally thousands of “my people” ready to defend our right to be who we are and do what comes naturally to us.
So yes, I do have pride and I still get shivers and goose bumps when I see any kind of Pride parade. The outburst of feeling freedom and pride to be yourself gets me every time. Do you have pride?

I do feel very blessed!
This one came about as a teasing statement to some straight friends asking questions about my love life as a lesbian. This was back when we were in out late teens, and they [my straight female friends] were talking about not really having had an orgasm while having sex with a guy. Oh, they’d had orgasm, but only those manufactured in an auto-erotic fashion.
Anyway, I was pretty chocked at this since my experiences in same-sex sexual encounters were filled with orgasm for both parties involved. They were talking about how it was okay not to have an orgasm and that it was still fun, and then asked me if I’d ever had an orgasm when having sex with another woman. Umm, yeah, about that… I think I almost laughed as I told them that I was struggling to remember even one time where we didn’t both have at least one orgasm.
They were visible surprised and amazed – even impressed, I think – by this revelation and felt pretty cheated with being in opposite sex relationships with no orgasm. I can’t imagine they were very impressed with their boyfriends that night. Meanwhile, I went home feeling very blessed that night.

It's so natural...
The first time I heard this quote was in connection with the struggle of South African homosexuals. The used the statement "South African by birth, gay by nature, proud by choice". However, since I'm not South African - and would like it to be more universal in any case - we quickly changed it to include only the two latter parts.
From everything I've heard recently, it hasn't exactly become easier to be gay in South Africa, even though the country is among the relatively few that offer same-sex marriage. This happened on December 1st 2006, when only the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Cananda and Massachusetts allowed same-sex marriage.
However, just recently ESPN had a special on the "Corrective Rape" of lebians in South Africa - you can read more about it and watch it here.

This design is probably five years old by now, but the soccer World Cup in South Africa in the summer of 2010, just reminded me of its origin. Also, this design has come to be a sort of personal tribute to the LGBT people of South Africa, who keep on fighting in the face of serious opposition.

What a rating!
Since this is the first design I'm revealing here, I figured it only fitting that it's one that defines what the whole collection of designs is all about.
Also, I'll be sure to give you the idea and thoughts behind every design I feature on this blog. Most times it's pretty self-explanatory, but there's still some kind of story behind almost every one of the designs.
I hereby give you the movie rating that I'm sure many LGBT people wouldn't mind seeing every now and then: "HG - Homosexual Guidance Suggested. Some material may not be suitable for straights"
